STUDENT EMPOWERMENT MOVEMENT

Assigning Personal Accountability to Promote Personal Efficacy

Our educational philosophy rests of the belief that student empowerment in all realms of personal growth leads to successful long-term outcomes. Each aspect of our model and all segments of our standard school day therefore point our students toward achieving their highest potential by empowering them to think wisely, act responsibly, and live independently.

Our so-named Student Empowerment Movement is a three-part system of comprehensive education that expertly and compassionately attends not only to each child’s academic, behavioral, and social-emotional well-being, but also to the real-life skills and competencies they’ll need to proficiently navigate the real world.

Academic Empowerment: ensures that each student’s specific needs are met and challenges treated in a customized learning environment optimized to attain their IEP goals and meet age-appropriate and grade-level benchmarks by incorporating:

•  Direct Instruction

•  Integrated Technology

•  Practical Skills Training

•  Individual & Team Learning

Behavioral Empowerment: applies leading behavioral science research and positive reinforcement techniques to motivate students to make self-promoting choices over self-defeating choices, with a concentration on:

•  Restorative Community

•  Therapeutic Environment

•  Positive Behavioral System

Life/Career Empowerment: prepares young adults for rewarding and fulfilling futures infused with personal agency, constructive involvement, and genuine connections by building and fostering:

•  Career Planning

•  Life Skills

•  Pro-Community & Positive Relationships

When implemented in the classroom, this three-pronged approach creates a flexible and student-responsive system in which students become highly engaged with the curriculum, with the staff, and with one another in a supportive learning community ripe with healthy student-teacher relationships.
